4 R’s Episode 2

Folks, remember the 4 R’s in Episode 1?

  1. Reduce
  2. Re-Use
  3. Recycle
  4. Rot
fallen leaves

Dead leaves but still useful, say what?

To be different, let’s start at the bottom of the list – Rot. I love the fact that Cait made this comment on the 4 R’s post:

Eat only food that will rot in your refrigerator

She is probably referring to something which is living or that was once living. In other words, organic. Organic matter will decompose (rot). This breaking down of matter takes place naturally in nature. When we talk “rot” in the 4 R’s we are actually referring to compost, a composition of decomposed organic material. One is encourage to use compost, a natural fertilizer, as opposed to chemical fertilizers which can be harmful to the environment. See Master Composter Recycling Program . Be sure to check our Episode 3 .

Rot? Isn’t that: Rule of Thumb? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it; What doesn’t kill fattens; and if you get something you don’t like, don’t trash it – re-gift it!
